Kona Shore Excursions - Carnival

Atlantis Submarine

Climb aboard an Atlantis Submarine, the most technologically advanced passenger submarine in the world.

On this amazing excursion you will:

  • Enjoy a short shuttle ride along the scenic coastline of the historic town of Kona to the Atlantis underwater site.
  • Descend over 100 feet underwater in Kona's crystal clear waters to explore 25 acres of coral reef gardens.
  • Marvel at the reef inhabited by hundreds of species of tropical fish, coral and other sea life.
  • Get access to Hawaii 's sea life from this spacious air-conditioned interior, large view-ports and comfortable seating, of this one-of-a-kind submarine.

Notes: Participants should wear comfortable clothes and sensible shoes for boat transfers and navigating the submarine ladder. Dive time is approximately 45 minutes.

Children must be at least 36 inches in height to participate and 4 years old.

 

Captain Zodiac Snorkel Adventure

Explore the Kona Coast and snorkel in the pristine waters of Kealakekua Bay .

On this thrilling excursion you will:

  • Board your high speed 24-foot Zodiac raft for a close-up view of sea caves, lava tubes and marine life.
  • Enjoy your Captain/Naturalist as they explain local Hawaiian history en route to the Captain Cook monument and marine sanctuary.
  • Be given a brief snorkel orientation and instruction by the highly trained staff before jumping in to explore the underwater sanctuary.

Note: All snorkel gear is provided, please wear your swimsuit and bring a cover up as well as sunscreen a hat and your camera.

Participants must be able to climb a 3-step ladder to enter the boat from the water after snorkeling.

Guests recovering from recent surgery, those who suffer from back problems or pregnant women are not allowed on the excursion.

Tropical refreshments, fruits, Maui Chips, sodas, bottled water and cookies are also included.

 

Deep Sea Fishing

Experience some of the best sport fishing in the world in the waters off the Kona coast.

On this excursion you will:

  • Fish aboard professional Coast Guard-inspected charter fishing vessels that accommodate between four to six guests.
  • Find “love at first strike” in pursuit of the five “flag fish” including: Marlin, Ahi, Ono, Mahi-mahi and Short-nose spearfish.

Notes: All the boats are restroom equipped and your fishing adventure includes round-trip transportation, tackle, bait, sodas and a box lunch.

Due to United States Agriculture restrictions, fish cannot be brought back on board.

 

Deluxe Afternoon Snorkel Cruise

Enjoy an afternoon cruise filled with fun and adventure suitable for novice and experienced snorkelers.

On this wonderful excursion you will:

  • Explore lava formations, make friends with an octopus or soar with a manta ray as you snorkel for approximately 2 1/2 hours at Pawai Bay , a protected marine reserve just north of Kona.
  • View countless varieties of fish and marine life that will unveil themselves before your eyes in this underwater paradise.
  • Enjoy complimentary Mai Tai's on the return cruise back to the port.

Note: A deli-style lunch and no host premium bar are included.

Snorkel equipment, flotation toys and a water slide are also included. It is recommended that you bring an additional change of clothing, a towel and sunscreen.

Kahua Ranch ATV Adventure & Scenic Drive

Explore the beautiful 8,500-acre Kahua Ranch, a genuine working cattle ranch, on your own ATV.

On this adventurous excursion you will:

  • Begin your ATV adventure with a narrated, one hour scenic motor coach transfer along the Kohala coast where you will learn about the unique geology and lava flows of the Big Island .
  • Arrive at the ranch where you will be greeted by the owner and given a short history of the ranching operation before being taken to the ATV safety briefing given by experienced guides.
  • Learn the best way to see this diverse landscape of mountains and pastures and take in the spectacular ocean views is aboard your own ATV.
  • Have guides who will lead you around the working ranch lands that have no set trails, just open spaces that will take you up to a 4,500 ft elevation. Due to varying weather conditions, be prepared to get dirty.
  • Finish your ATV ranch experience with cookies and s'more's around the campfire.

Notes: All safety gear is included. Closed toe shoes are required, recommended are long sleeved shirts and pants.

Guests must show that they can drive their own ATV, minimum age is 16.

Guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Minimum weight 100 lbs.; maximum weight 300 lbs.

Kahua Ranch Horseback Riding

Explore the beautiful 8,500-acre Kahua Ranch, a genuine working cattle ranch, on this exciting open range horseback ride.

On this entertaining excursion you will:

  • Begin your day with a narrated scenic, one hour motor coach ride along the Kohala coast, where you will learn about the unique geology and lava flows.
  • Arrive at the ranch and feel the spirit of the ancient Hawaiian warriors who were trained on Kahua Ranch in preparation for the invasion of the neighbor islands, the name Kahua, meaning “Beginning”.
  • Learn under the guidance of Hawaiian Paniolo's (cowboys), and ride on well trained horses over this open range, taking in the sights of this working ranch the surrounding mountains and lush pastures.
  • Enjoy superb riding conditions designed for beginners and experienced alike.
  • Complete your ranch experience while enjoying cookies and s'more's around the ranch campfire.

Notes: Guests must wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Be prepared for varying weather conditions.

Maximum weight limit is 230 lbs., minimum age is 8 years, guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

Kailua Village Walk

Take a leisurely walk through Kailua village and learn how Kamehameha I united the islands.

On this fascinating excursion you will:

  • Learn what life was like under the kapu system and how the priest influenced living conditions.
  • Hear how Queen Ka‘ahumanu and Queen Keopuolani changed Hawaiian life forever.
  • Visit the historic homes and stores in Kailua village from the time of the ancient King Umi up to the 1960's.

Note: Final stop, Hulihe‘e Palace is not wheelchair accessible, however, the remainder of the excursion is. At the end of your excursion feel free to continue exploring Kailua village on your own.

You will not be far from Kailua-Kona Pier and the ship. Comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen are recommended.

This beautiful golf course is one of Hawaii 's original golf resort destinations.

Course particulars:

  • This famed ocean course winds its way around Keauhou Bay , with magnificent ocean front holes, generous fairways and large greens.
  • The Ocean course is challenging to golfers due to its strong crosswind and close proximity to the shoreline where you may even be sprayed by ocean mist.
  • Par 72, 6,748 yards.

 

Kona Historical Tour

Learn about Hawaii 's folklore and ancient legends as you travel on this fantastic excursion of Kona.

On this excursion you will:

  • Travel along Ali'i Drive that traverses through the quaint bay front town of Kailua- Kona .
  • Continue your island journey, passing the resort town of Keauhou , the birthplace of Kamehameha III.
  • Catch a glimpse of the intoxicating Kealakekua Bay .
  • See the monument to Captain James Cook, who is credited for discovering the Hawaiian Islands on September 20, 1778, at Kealakekua.
  • Visit Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, also known as the “City of Refuge ”.
  • Marvel at the city's temple sitting on a 20-acre finger of lava bordered by the sea on all sides.
  • Experience this sacred Hawaiian site now a National Historic Park dating back to the 16th century.
  • Stop at St. Benedict's “painted” Church, home to vibrant and colorful religious murals.

 

Kona Kayak Adventure

Enjoy a guided kayak adventure of Kona starting from famous Keauhou Bay , the birthplace of King Kamehameha.

On this excursion you will:

  • Start your adventure by visiting Kuamoo Bay as well as some great sea caves and giant lava tubes.
  • Possibly see a playful dolphin or green sea turtle.
  • Have the opportunity to snorkel and see some of Hawaii 's marine life up-close.
  • Return to the port via air-conditioned coach or van.

Note: Wear a bathing suit under your clothing, sturdy sandals, and bring your towel, sunscreen and sunglasses. Snorkel gear and safety vests are provided.

Guests should be in good physical condition. This excursion is not recommended for those with back problems or heart conditions.

Minimum age is 10 years and a parent or legal guardian must accompany children under 18. Participants should expect to paddle at a moderately active pace for approx. 3½ miles round trip.

  • Snorkel for 2½ hours at Pawai Bay , a protected marine preserve just north of Kona.

Parker Ranch

This fascinating journey will serve as a great introduction to the island of Hawaii .

On this great excursion you will:

  • Take a 1½ hour drive to the Parker Ranch where your guide will point out many of the important historic sites.
  • Leave Kona and pass Mokuaikaua, the first Christian church on the island.
  • See Hulihe'e Palace, once the summer home of Hawaiian Royalty.
  • Enjoy the contrast of ebony lava fields on one side and the deep blue ocean on the other.
  • Visit the ancient Royal Heiau called Pu´ukohola.
  • Be transported back in time as you walk the grounds of these dramatic remnants.
  • Leave the coastal region and drive up the now verdant slopes of the dormant volcano Mauna Kea .
  • Arrive in Waimea, hub of sprawling ranch lands.
  • See the ranch founded over 150 years ago by John Palmer Parker consisting of some 220,000 acres.
  • Enjoy a 45 minute stop at the Parker Ranch Visitor Center for displays detailing the early years on the Ranch.
  • Visit Mana, the Parker's original koa wood cabin and its later replacement, Pu´u´opelu filled with precious art works and Venetian glass collected by Parker heirs.
