Spouting Horn - Hawaiians believed that the loud sound made by the blowhole was the angry roar of the lizard goddess Kaikapu, imprisoned in a submerged lava tube by a resourceful fisherman. When tide conditions are right, waves surging through a submerged lava tube erupt in a spectacular geyser of sea water.

Board your air-conditioned motorcoach for the approximately two hour drive to Waimea Canyon . You pass through Lihue, the island's main town, Koloa, home of flower farms and sugarcane fields. Visit the beautiful Hanalei Valley , tour the historic home of two missionaries who profoundly shaped the island's history, and see the locations for famed movies ranging from "South Pacific" to " Jurassic Park ".

WHAT YOU VISIT
Hanalei Valley - During the 19th-century, the valley grew crops of coffee, oranges, sugar, rice, and silk produced from mulberry trees for the China Trade. Today, the valley is a patchwork of taro fields and the source of nearly all the poi produced in Hawaii .


Kilohana - Visit the home and church of missionaries Abner and Lucy Wilcox. Their offspring produced a dynasty of part-Hawaiian leaders who shaped the islands' history. See the New England-style church, built in 1835, and tour their 1837 two-story frame house, now a museum complete with original furnishings.

Board an air-conditioned 4x4 van for the journey eastward and then inland from Wailua to the Keahau Arboretum. Fasten your seatbelt for the bumpy ride further into the heart of Kaua'i, crossing streams and winding through the dense forest to the "gate" used in the " Jurassic Park " movie. From here, begin an easy stroll past wild flowers and gorgeous vistas to an area near the base of Mt. Waialeale . Princeville Waterfall Hike

Travel to the private Princeville Ranch near Hanalei Bay for a 3 1/2-mile hike that leads to a waterfall hidden in the rain forest.

YOUR PRINCEVILLE HIKE
Board your air-conditioned vehicle for the approximately one hour drive to Princeville Ranch. After registration, transfer to the trailhead. Your hike begins with a trip to a scenic overlook offering 360-degree views of the north coast. Continue on, crossing pastures, to the beginning of the rainforest. Your trail switchbacks down to a 100-foot waterfall. There will be free time to swim, relax, take pictures and a picnic lunch will be served before returning to the ranch. Board your vehicle for the return to the ship.

Minimum age to participate is 8 years old.

This excursion involves approximately 3 1/2 miles of hiking over uneven and sometimes muddy terrain.

Passengers must be in good physical condition and should expect to lower themselves down a 10-foot natural rock formation with the assistance of guides. The climb is very safe and controlled, however, participants must be able to hold their own weight.

Wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes and swimsuits under comfortable clothing. Bring a towel, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent and waterproof camera. Backpacks, water shoes, rain ponchos and walking sticks are provided.

 

 

Hike & Cave Exploration - Kauai's Lost World

YOUR HIKE AND CAVE EXPLORATION
The tour begins with a short informative ride in an air-conditioned van to the sunny south side of the Garden Island . The 2 1/2 mile trail takes you along the spectacular Maha'ulepu coastline and sea cliffs. Marine life, sea birds, and the unparalleled beauty of this rugged coast will unfold before you. Continue to one of the most mysterious and scientifically significant places in the Pacific – Makauwahi Cave and Sinkhole. You will hike a short distance on a narrow jungle trail and enter the open cave by going through a hole in the rock. There is abundant light in the caves, so flashlights are not needed. Makauwahi is the largest limestone cave complex in Hawaii and an archaeologist's dream where stalactites adorn the ceiling and wall of the cave passages and 10,000 years of environmental change and extinction are revealed daily. You will appreciate this strikingly beautiful area where two large caves are found on either side of a spacious amphitheater open to the sky and surrounded by high cliffs. You will have an opportunity to make your own scientific discovery if you don't mind getting your hands muddy!

Hidden Falls Kayak Adventure

Take a fun kayak trip on the Hule'ia, a beautiful and historic jungle stream, and go for a hike into the heart of the Hule'ia National Wildlife Refuge.

YOUR KAYAKING AND HIKING ADVENTURE
From the pier travel to Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor for some basic safety and paddling instructions before beginning a delightful two mile paddle on the Hule'ia River. Known for its lush greenery, Hule'ia has been the site of filming for a wide range of major motion pictures, including "Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark", and "Lost World," the sequel to Jurassic Park. Travel through the Hule'ia Nat'l Wildlife Refuge, a place for the preservation of endangered Hawaiian water birds then paddle past the Alekoko (Menehune) Fishpond. Leave your kayaks behind and set out on a 3/4 mile guided nature walk through a pristine tropical rain forest. The rain forest contains many different interesting communities of plants, birds and aquatic life, both native and introduced. Your destination is an off-the-beaten-path swimming hole and a gorgeous tropical waterfall. After kayaking and hiking, make a relaxing return on a double-hulled, powered, Hawaiian canoe while enjoying snacks and cold drinks.

Passengers should wear beach attire under clothing and footwear with aggressive tread for muddy conditions (example: sport-type sandals with heel straps or aqua socks). Tubing The Hanamaulu Ditch

A unique tubing adventure that takes you back in time to the sugar plantation era – this exclusive tubing experience takes place on private lands that have never before been open to the public.

YOUR TUBING ADVENTURE
A short drive takes you to the headwaters of the 4-mile long Hanamaulu Ditch system, where you will begin your 2-mile tubing expedition. Grab a tube, don a headlamp, and jump in for a leisurely cruise. Witness Kauai 's spectacular engineering feats as you float down the tropical waterway consisting of open ditches, tunnels and flumes all of which were engineered and hand dug circa 1912. At the end of your tubing adventure, you will be whisked away to an enchanted picnic area complete with a pristine swimming hole to enjoy your delicious snack.

Kauai Sportfishing

The island of Kauai offers some of the best deep sea fishing anywhere, so prepare for some exciting vacation entertainment as you reel in the big one!

YOUR SPORTFISHING ADVENTURE
Depart Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor , just a few minutes away from the cruise ship pier, and within 15-minutes of leaving the harbor, you will be in the best big game waters around. Your sportfishing vessel is equipped with the finest tackle and electronics available to help you find, and fight, the largest fish. Troll for marlin, mahi mahi (dorado), ahi (yellow-fin tuna), ono (wahoo) and even an occasional sailfish (depending on the season). Please remember, you have purchased the opportunity to catch fish, not a guarantee of doing so. Your boat accommodates six to eight guests. All equipment, gear, bait, and soft drinks are included. Princess regrets that we are not allowed to store your catch onboard; any fish caught may be kept by the crew.

Board a motorized raft and set out on an expedition along the Na Pali coast with free time for swimming and snorkeling.

YOUR RAFTING ADVENTURE
After a 45-minute scenic drive across the island, board the 48-foot Na Pali Explorer, a motorized raft, for a cruise along the dramatic Na Pali coast. Your captain provides narration and offers historical and cultural insights as you explore cascading coastal waterfalls and sea caves. Conditions permitting, there will be free time to snorkel or swim along a protected reef teeming with tropical fish, coral, and possibly, green sea turtles. A deli-style lunch is served onboard. WHAT YOU VISIT
Kilauea Lighthouse - Situated on the remains of a weather-worn volcanic crater, the lighthouse was originally built in 1913. Today, the lighthouse is just a daymark but in its day it was one of the Pacific's most powerful and essential navigational aids. The lighthouse has the largest clam shaped lens ever made and can beam its light over 90 miles out to sea.

Hanalei Pier - Stroll along the pier for an unforgettable view of the serene Hanalei Bay and beaches which were made famous by the film “South Pacific.”

YOUR HELICOPTER FLIGHT
Upon arrival at the helicopter terminal, receive a warm aloha check-in followed by a digital surround-sound, large-screen presentation showing the history and geology of Hawaii . Following the presentation, board an air-conditioned jet helicopter to begin a spectacular flight above Kauai . Accompanying the awesome scenery is music and a narration on the culture, history and myths of the island. Soar through the heavens for a bird's eye view of magnificent waterfalls, majestic canyons and inaccessible beaches. Pass the 3,400-foot Mt. Namolokama Waterfalls, Waimea Canyon – “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, the Na Pali Coast, Hanalei Valley , Bali Hai and, weather permitting, Mt. Wai'ale 'ale.

LUNCH
Pause during your tour for a picnic lunch including sandwich, chips and drink.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Drive along Kauai's scenic coconut coast whose exotic features and lush vegetation have appeared in many movies including “South Pacific”, “ Jurassic Park ” and “Blue Hawaii.” Visit North Shore beaches and caves before pausing at the Kilauea Lighthouse. Continue on for a picnic lunch at either Anini Beach Park - adjacent to the property used for the movie "Honeymoon in Las Vegas .

All seats in the helicopter are forward facing with large custom windows for optimum viewing. Bring plenty of film and batteries for your video camcorders and camera. This tour runs rain or shine. If the flight portion of the tour is cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions guests will receive a credit and the land portion of the tour will be completed.

Kauai'S Grand Helicopter Tour

Spectacular scenery awaits on an exhilarating helicopter flight over Kauai .

YOUR HELICOPTER FLIGHT
Lift off in an air-conditioned jet helicopter passing Nawiliwili Harbor and the Menehune Fish Pond. Soar over the Hanapepe Valley with its many waterfalls and dense tropical forests followed by views of Waimea Canyon - the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," Wailea Falls and Alakai Swamp . Weather permitting, you might see the wettest spot on earth – the Waialeale Crater. Your return journey will take in the isolated Na Pali Coast with its beautiful valleys and beaches, which were used as backdrops for the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Kaua'i By Private Vehicle - Car Class

A private vehicle is the perfect solution for passengers who wish to tour privately or who want the flexibility of designing their own itinerary.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Vehicles with an English-speaking driver/guide combination are offered on a half-day (four hours; morning or afternoon) or full-day (eight hours) basis. No deviations to duration, departure or return time can be made. This is a private arrangement; those accompanying you are the family or friends with whom you agree to share costs. We do not match groups of passengers to form a private group for the vehicle. Vehicles and guides are of extremely limited availability; reserve early.

These tours are ordered per vehicle. One person in your party places the order for the vehicle; the entire cost of the vehicle is charged to that person's shipboard account and cannot be divided among the party. Once onboard, you will receive a letter requesting details about your travel plans. Please complete this information and return it to the Tour Office as soon as possible.

LIH-71/72 - Half Day with Driver/Guide (4 hours) One to three (1-3) passengers (Maximum capacity requires three people in back seat)
